Marigolds are widely used in India for religious decorations and offerings.

In South Asia bright yellow and orange marigold flowers are used in their thousands in garlands and to decorate religious statues and buildings. They are also used as offerings and decoration at funerals, weddings and other ceremonies.
Food and fodder
Pigments in marigolds are sometimes extracted and used as a food colouring for humans and livestock.

Floriculture
The cultivation of flower crops is known as floriculture. Marigolds are one of the most widely cultivated flower crops in India. Fields of flower crops are often harvested by hand so the blooms don't get bruised or damaged. They are sold loose or strung together in beautiful garlands.
