Offerings of betelnuts are made at social occasions as a lucky token for all relationships. Chewing betelnut is also considered to be a favourite activity of the gods. Betelnut is offered to images of gods as part of religious ceremonies.

In India betelnut seed chewing is a symbol of the Hindu Trinity, and betelnut seeds are believed to delight Brahma.
