Explore - Osborne House, Isle of Wight

Osborne House was built for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert as a private home. In 1876, when Queen Victoria became Empress of India, the state banquet hall was decorated in an Indian style. Rudyard Kipling's father designed this extraordinary room, called The Durbar Room. It is an excellent example of the Sikh decorative techniques. Osborne House is also home to the famous Winterhalter portrait of Maharajah Duleep Singh, along with other Sikh portraits.
